Frequently asked questions

Question:
How does this program work

Answer:

  • Businesses with existing Internet connectivity can leverage a desktop-based client application.
  • Businesses without Internet connectivity can leverage same client app but will receive their inventory via email, which they upload into the client software.
  • Airtime Vouchers can be rolled out in batch or printed on demand using existing printer.
  • Sell Airtime for any Network, any Denomination.
  • You cannot ‘run out’ of airtime to resell.
  • Question:
How can an enterprising individual benefit from this program

    Answer:
An individual can use the Visor PDA as their cell phone in addition to the business functionalities of the handheld. The individual thus become a mobile trading station, thus affording great flexibility.

For a little more than the cost of a mid range cell phone, the individual now carries a COMPUTER with every functionality of a regular computer.

Also, dumping a cell phone for an inexpensive communicator device is similar to dumping a motor bike for a car.

    Question:
Do I still need a Handheld PDA if I already have one

    Answer:
No. If you have any PDA that runs the Palm OS and has the corresponding modem accessories, you need not purchase another. Our platform runs on any Palm OS 3.1 PDA and above.

    Question:
Do I still need a Handheld Printer if I already have a desktop printer

    Answer:
No, if your desktop printer has an IR (Infra-red) port. However, most existing printers lack this facility, and therefore an optional Handheld printer will be purchased in most instances

    Question:
How do I get hold of a demo?

    Answer:
You can download a Palm OS demo here

    Question:
Do I need to download anything from your website to get this working?

    Answer:
No. Not beyond the demo. When you sign up, we will provide the production version and necessary license keys.

    Question:
Who supplies the PDA's and how do I get hold of one?

    Answer:
We can either provide you the PDA, Modem and printer at cost via our relationship with US and European distributors or you may choose to purchase them directly from retailers. If you're buying your own equipment, the following are our recommendations:

  • Handspring Visor series (Visor Prism recommended)
  • Handspring Visorphone
  • Sipix A6 Palm Printer
  • Question:
What facilities do you have for online payment?

    Answer:

    Answer:
Our security architecture uses SSL 4 with 128 bit encryption to protect our data both within a repository and while in transit.

Our application architecture uses Windows 2000 domain logon as well as customer id, password, domain and phone number to authenticate every download request.

    Question:
As a retailer how do see the amount downloaded for each network

    Answer:
The GSM Marketplace Palm application has inventory control and reporting functionalities built in. Retailers are able to view existing inventory in detail, view subtotals per network and denomination as well as generate sales reports.

    Question:
As a retailer, how do I verify the amount of units that I have left to sell?

    Answer:
Use the inventory view to see amount left for given denomination and network. This will help in determining what inventory item needs to be replenished.

    Question:
As a retailer, how do I find out my account balance?

    Answer:
    Use menu option reporting/current balance

    Question:
As a retailer, how do I download minutes to my palm database.?

    Answer:
You can download minutes from the GSM server at any time up to the amount of balance you have in your account. You can either download using SMS (recommended form small downloads) or via a socket connection to the server (recommended for large downloads).

Downloaded minutes are stored encrypted in your palm database, ready to be sold one customer at a time.

    Question:
What server and OS specification are required for the NGRGSM Server

    Answer:
The NGRGSm server and transaction gateway runs on windows 2000 professional and above. A dedicated 128MB RAM PIII should suffice for most needs.

    Question:
How do I get support - Do you have a dedicated Call Centre or Customer Response centre

    Answer:
Support is available via email and phone. Email support requests can be sent to support@ngrgsm.com For phone support see our contact us page for approriate phone number.

    Question:
As a dealer, why should I invest money in buying the equipment when I already make money from selling scratch cards.

    Answer:
The equipment is valid for trading pre-paid services for all networks and all denominations. It also enables you to quickly expand your clientele. This technology allows you to reduce the overhead costs associated with administration and to sell on demand to consumers via their cellular phone.

Also noteworthy is that you can even subscribe to Internet access via your handheld and best of all, it represents a platform for delivering several other mobile services in the near future.

    Question:
As a consumer, why should I bother to buy from you or your retailers when I get recharge cards 'pushed in my face' by hawkers on the street?

    Answer:
Our solution not only compliments the cards being sold on the streets, it affords you the peace of mind that comes from "knowing your source".

You'll find our independent retailers and licensees in your favourite restaurants, in your bank, post offices, petrol stations and retail outlets.

You'll also find our independent retailers on the retail kiosks by the side of the road.

    Question:
What happens if the equipment becomes obsolete?

    Answer:
This is highly unlikely since the system was designed to work on an open platform running the Palm Operating system (OS).

Our solution is not dependent on any particular equipment but on the Palm OS. This operating system is supported by many major Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) manufacturers including Palm, Sony, Handspring, Kyocera and many more.

Custom PocketPC versions can also be made available to large accounts on demand.

This means that you can buy your own personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or use one from us.

    Question:
Have you considered other transaction gateways other than SMS?

    Answer:
Yes, as a matter of fact. We are currently developing a parallel Internet based transaction gateway. This way, customers go direct to your website or to ours to buy minutes for their phone.

Of course, this assumes that you will be powering your website with our transaction engine.

    Question:
How reliable is this technology? Has it been used anywhere else in the world?

    Answer:
The technology is as reliable as making a phone call on your GSM. It is that simple because it relies on the SMS technology for the transfer of phone minutes.

This technology is relatively new but has been extensively deployed in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and South Africa for several years.
